Basic top 10 lists can go a long way in marketing your business online, simply because they have ideas that your market is looking for. When you share the top ideas, especially when it’s part of the list, it shows up in searches for other parts of the list. You are IN the list, therefore, they also find you.
When I started building my business, there was a guy who did nothing but write top 10 lists of whatever he could think of. His lists directed people to their favorite top ten of anything he wrote, and usually those were the specific things he was interested in. I may never forget my favorite from his lists. He had one called The 10 Best Hot Dog Stands in Denver. I remember driving home one afternoon from a meeting, hungry, tired, frustrated that the meeting didn’t go particularly well, and there was a sign hanging over the sidewalk that said “Custer’s Hot Dogs.” I had never been to the place but I love hotdogs so I had read the article. I remembered that Custer’s was number 3 on his list, so I pulled over and parked.
That was the best hot dog I remember having. I went back to my computer, found your website, and started looking at the other hot dog stands you recommended. WOW! Those were some amazing Hot Dogs. And I’ve been back to several of those hot dog stands since then, even though their website completely disappeared for nearly five years. If I’m in the neighborhood, I still stop at those hot dog stands. That’s good marketing!
