So what is reflexology?
General Definition: Reflexology is the application of pressure with the thumb and fingers to reflex points on the feet and hands to stimulate a physiological change in the body. IT’S NOT A FOOT MASSAGE!

If a part of the body is not working properly, uric acid, calcium, and mineral deposits can build up in the reflexes, impeding energy flow and circulation. A trained professional reflexologist can help break down and disperse these deposits, helping to restore the body’s health.

It is medically accepted that 75% of all illnesses and diseases are stress related.

Relaxation is the first step towards normalizing the blood and nerve supply to all areas of the body, which encourages better circulation for the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the cells. The acorns can then normalize their function.

Each foot has approximately 7,500 nerve endings that send signals to the brain. There are also 26 bones, 19 muscles, and 13 leg muscles, 50 ligaments, 3 arches, and approximately 800 meters of blood, nerve, and lymphatic vessels.

Where can you do reflexology?
Reflexology is typical performed on the feet. Reflexology can be done on the ears and hands. This is commonly used when you can’t work your feet, for example, people who don’t have legs or feet, people who don’t like to have their feet touched, when it’s uncomfortable to work your feet, there are reference points on your hands. The feet are the preferred area to work on as they are larger and easier to access.

Hand reflexology is beneficial if people have hand problems, for example arthritis or carpal tunnel. There are 26 bones in the hand and the medial, radial, and ulnar nerves, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Hand reflexology is non-threatening and can be done in a public place without feeling uncomfortable. We can do it ourselves more easily on our hands than on our feet and it can be done when we are waiting for a bus, a plane, outside the boss’s office!

We use our hands as an extension of ourselves, we say that our feet represent our direction in life, our hands show our emotions, we talk with our hands, we use them to work and do our hobbies, there is very little we don’t do without our hands, they are our sensory guide. However, this means that they are less sensitive than our feet.

The World Health Authority recognizes the ear reflexology chart.
Reflexology is also accepted by most health funds in Australia.

How to choose a reflexologist?
When choosing a reflexologist, be sure to choose a professional reflexologist. In Australia look for someone with the initials RAA (Reflexology Association of Australia) or ICR (International Council of Reflexology) behind their name. This means that the reflexologist has done most of his or her studies in reflexology (as opposed to massage therapy) and will be familiar with a number of different reflexology techniques and will have studied different aspects of reflexology (for example, meridians, gait, walking techniques). mobilization, nutrition, etc.). there are many more aspects of reflexology than a way of doing a treatment).

There are many specialties in reflexology, for example, infertility, insomnia, back pain, menopause, RSI, depression, autism, the elderly, children, etc. Most reflexologists will be able to do general treatment to help the symptoms of any medical problem a client may be presenting to them, however you may be able to find a remedial reflexologist who specializes in your symptoms. For example, my specialties are women’s health (fertility, maternity, PMT, Menopause) and any back problem, although I have had success with many other ailments. To remain a member of the Association, they must also earn a number of CPE points each year (Continuing Professional Education), which means they will be up to date on the latest research and techniques.

Over the years there has been a lot of research on the efficacy of reflexology and many cases are available on the internet. For example: in Switzerland, nurses working with cancer patients routinely use reflexology to reduce pain and in the UK, a purpose-built cancer unit provides reflexology, aromatherapy and treatment for lymphoedema. Reflexology is recognized by the UK National Health Service and is recognized by the National Health Authority (UK) as a treatment to alleviate the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Gosford Hospital did a closer investigation using reflexology for edema in pregnancy.

Studies in China, Denmark, South Africa, the US, and Europe have shown its efficacy in a wide range of conditions, including migraine, respiratory problems, infertility, kidney conditions, musculoskeletal problems, PMT, colic in babies, and withdrawal symptoms. drugs abuse. It is widely used in hospitals in China and many companies around the world have reflexologists on staff to combat stress in the workplace.

I have found it beneficial with clients who have unrelieved back pain, clients who have a lot of foot pain and have been elsewhere e.g. doctors, physiotherapists, podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, but no one who really works all the muscles, tendons, nerve endings for a whole hour! This is what a reflexologist does and the relief is noticeable! I often have people limping in my clinic with foot problems and dancing!

With back pain and general pain or allergies, I find that while there is noticeable relief after the first treatment, the difference is more noticeable after a couple of treatments, however this is not always the case! Reflexology also complements chiropractic treatments as it relieves muscle stiffness commonly found with adjustments and, if done sooner, makes bones easier to manipulate.

I hope this has whetted your appetite to at least try reflexology. You will experience the benefits after the first treatment. Typically, a treatment schedule would be once a week for four to six weeks, and then, depending on the condition being treated, once a month, or more often if you have the financial resources. It lasts just under an hour.

It is a great immune system enhancer and central nervous system relaxant. My clinic is in Eagle Heights, Mount Tamborine, Queensland, Australia.
