LG 42LE5400 42 Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV Product Review

LG – Life is good. Well, I can only agree that for LG, life just keeps getting better and their latest foray into integrated web TV is great.

It offers energy-efficient LED backlighting, Full HD 1080p resolution, and 120Hz TruMotion technology, which is excellent to the naked eye and completely eliminates motion blur.

This means that the LG 42LE5400 42-inch LED LCD HDTV is excellent for watching sports and fast-action movies with a response time of 2.6 milliseconds.

There are also two USB ports for connecting external drives to play MP3 audio, JPEG photos and DivX HD video files, 20-watt stereo speakers with Dolby Digital decoding, and four HDMI inputs.

On the display front, it also delivers deep blacks and sharp images to rival anything in its display category with an incredible 4,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. I’m currently using it in a (very) bright living room and the LED is bright enough to look at with no problem.

With built-in NetCast, you get access to TV shows, movies, and more, streamed directly from the Internet to your TV screen.

At this point it took me a few minutes at first to get an internet connection, but was quickly resolved by rebooting my router so the TV could get its IP address.

I also had to press ‘netcast’ or ‘widgets’ on the remote for the firmware update to activate, but that’s when the TV automatically checked for the latest update.

Once it was up and running, Internet applications are pretty good. The TV connects to Netflix, Vudu, YouTube and other Internet videos. There are also the usual collections of Yahoo! widgets that like to tell you the weather and check stock prices. They seem relatively useless.

Overall, it’s a beautiful TV, even when it’s turned off. It’s so incredibly slim that it complements my living room and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb and is probably the best panel TV in its price range.
