Is it difficult to podcast?

Today I will answer the question “Is it hard to do?”

The quick answer is “No”. But there are a few things you need to pay attention to in order to produce a quality product. If you don’t have a quality podcast on this day and time, your listeners will probably only end up being your family and close friends. If you want to expand your reach, you need to invest in some equipment that will improve your quality.

Now, if you’re doing a video podcast, you’ll definitely need a camera. If you’re going to be using your laptop, it probably has a built-in camera. If you are using a desktop computer, you can buy a cheap camera that will sit on top of the monitor. The other option is to buy an actual video camera, but this could also be the most expensive option.

For an audio podcast, you can use the built-in microphone on your computer. But it will also sound like you’re using the computer’s built-in microphone. For just a small investment, you can buy a headphone and microphone combo. This will improve the sound quality and help you stand out from those who just want to use the microphone on their cell phone or computer.

For a little more, you can buy a slightly better condenser microphone, like the Blue Yeti or Blue Snowball. These work fine as long as you stay close to the microphone. I have used a Blue Yeti and you can see it here!

If you really want to go all out and get professional sound quality, you can buy a dynamic microphone. This style of microphone only picks up sounds that are directly in front of it. It’s the kind you see on radio station footage where the DJ speaks directly into the microphone. Condenser microphones pick up sounds from AROUND the mic…basically, from the room. That’s why it sounds “funny” unless you’re directly in front of the microphone, like I am right now.

So, there you have a list of some of the equipment you will need. In the next article, I will answer the question, “It’s complicated?”
