How to move a hot tub or spa

So, do you want to move your hot tub or spa? Wondering how to undertake such a large project. Fortunately for you, I helped some of my friends move their hot tub. So you can learn from what we did and make the process much smoother.

Let’s take this step by step.

The tools and material you need to get started would be 8 pieces of PVC pipe (a little more or less depending on the size of the spa) and a hand-held or battery-powered power saw.

Step 1) We started by cutting pieces of PVC pipe. We should keep about five 3-inch pieces and three 4-5 foot pieces, assuming you have a truck or trailer.

Step 2) Position the tubing right next to the hot tub so that if you tilt the spa to the right, on its side, the tub is on top of the PVC tubing. You need to rotate the tubing so that it rolls in the same direction you want to go (the place you want to move the spa to).

Step 3) Let’s assume you have at least four people moving the hot tub (including yourself). On one end you should have two of them and two on the other side right in front of the pipes. Now we can lift the spa until it sits on top of the PVC pipes. Don’t forget that the pipes can roll in this step. Be careful.

Step 4) At this step, you are ready to roll the spa. You are going to roll the tub slowly until you remove the tube in the back and place it in the front. This requires some basic coordination between all four people, but nothing crazy. You need to keep rolling this until you’ve moved it to where you want it to be.

Step 5) This time lower the spa to the final location

Step 6) This step is for those who are moving the spa out of their home using a trailer or truck. You want to back up your truck to the closest point you can safely move the hot tub. Keep the pieces of PVC pipe in the trailer. Tip the spa over the back of the truck and slide it into the working spot. Tie it up and take it where it needs to go.

The steps above are not set in stone. You should be able to use a variation of the above using materials or ideas that work for you. Make sure no one gets hurt. Move slowly and if necessary, hire professionals to move it.
