Cleaning your makeup mixers and makeup brushes

Makeup brushes and blenders can be a breeding ground for bacteria, especially if they’re not cleaned regularly or stored properly, or worse, shared with a friend. Think about it: even if you don’t have oily skin, product and germ buildup can contaminate your brushes, and if you don’t clean them, you’ll just transfer that to your face.

The following steps should be followed when cleaning your makeup tools, be it brushes, blenders, and any other means.

Step 1 – Rinse

As simple as this step is, great care must be taken to prevent water from running directly into the base of the brush. This is because the water weakens the glue and causes the bristles to fall off, shortening the life of the brush. The proper way to rinse a brush is to always rinse the bristles under running water. However, the blender should be rinsed under warm water until completely soaked.

Step 2 – Cleaning

When cleaning your brushes, a mild shampoo, soap, or daily facial cleanser can work great to help break down makeup or dirt that has stuck to the bristles over time. The shampoo should be worked into the brittle ones and rinsed with water until clean. You can also massage the bristles with coconut oil to remove all the stubborn products from the brushes. It should be lathered in the blender with the shampoo and washed well and then rinsed until the water runs clear.

Step 3 – Disinfection

Rinsing and cleaning the blender and brush bristles is enough to remove all kinds of dirt on the brush, but it is not enough to remove germs and bacteria. The only way to get rid of bacteria is to disinfect the bristles. This can be done using a solution that contains two parts water and one part vinegar. The blender and bristle brush should be rinsed with water after sanitizing with the solution.

Step 4 – Drying

The last step to follow when cleaning your brush and blender is to dry them. Excess water can be removed with a dry towel. The bristles should be reshaped and the brush should be allowed to dry overnight. The blender should be air dried or if it is necessary to use it wet, then it can be put to work immediately.
