Buying an RV, whether it’s an RV, fifth wheel, travel trailer, pop-up or folding RV, pickup truck, or any other type of RV can be as much fun as you make it. Since the whole family will share in the joy of using the new RV, let them share in the fun of buying it. Buying an RV shouldn’t be an impulsive decision, take your time, make sure you get the one that best suits your family. The first decision you need to make is how much you can afford to spend on the RV and how much you’ll need to spend to set it up for use. You want it stocked with everything you’ll need to go camping, there’s nothing worse than forgetting something important.
Once you’ve determined how much you can afford, you’ll want to explore the different types of RVs and decide which one best suits your family’s needs. A motorhome is the most comfortable to travel in, since everyone can move freely while driving on the road. While they may be the most comfortable, they are also some of the most expensive and can be difficult to navigate once you arrive at your destination, which is why most tow a vehicle. The newer and larger coaches really are like a house on wheels, while the older and smaller ones are more affordable and less luxurious.
Travel trailers or fifth wheel trailers can be very comfortable to pass the time in once you arrive at your destination. The least comfortable part of traveling with a tow vehicle is that the driving portion of the trip is done in a vehicle. Depending on how many people you are traveling with, how long the trip is, and how rushed you are to get there all play into how tight the trip is. If you can make fairly frequent stops and take breaks, traveling in a vehicle can easily offset the cost of an RV.
A pop-up or folding camper or truck camper is often the least expensive and least luxurious way to travel. If you prefer a more primitive style of camping, the popup might be more for you. While they are lighter to pull, easier to maneuver, and less expensive, they also leave out many of the comforts of home. Many have toilet facilities, but they are more like a porta-potty than the facilities of a travel trailer or motor home. The same goes for the kitchen and sleeping areas, if you like to camp primitively this won’t be a problem, but if you enjoy the comforts of home you might want to look at a few before you decide to buy one.
Take your time, go to as many dealerships as you can, and look at them all. RV shows can be a lot of fun and offer a huge selection of types, brands and allow you to meet different sellers and ask different questions. Once you have a good idea of what you want, I suggest you search the internet before you buy. The selection is endless and you can save money if you take your time and are willing to travel to buy one. Since traveling is the reason to buy an RV, why be afraid to travel to buy one?

Camping is a great way to bring the family together, so start enjoying it as you explore which RV is best for your family. Be careful not to buy one that is over your budget as it can take a lot of fun out of using it. You can have so much fun in an RV that is half the price, most importantly you can afford to use it, the further you go the more fun you will have.
