Xbox 360 Domination

You have to search a bit to find a home with teenagers that doesn’t have an Xbox 360. You’ll also find plenty of Wiis, but that’s after a slightly different market. As always seems to be the case with computer gaming systems, one has risen to the top and that’s the Xbox 360.

It’s hard to believe that this all started with a single system that had only one game. That would be Pong. It ruled the 1970s until the early 1980s when Atari entered the scene, first with the 2600 and then the 3200. They would soon fall to Sega and Nintendo and then the Sony Play Station. In 2005 Microsoft got into the fray and things have not been the same. With over 41 million units produced, what has driven it?

In essence, it has a lot to do with who produces it, Microsoft. The name itself is not why people use it. Microsoft will forever be associated, for better or worse, with operating systems. It’s what Microsoft does that gives it the edge. Years of experience in making systems work together allow Xbox 360 to offer unique services and, in addition to the bells and whistles found in other systems, sometimes better.

Xbox 360 is a seventh generation game console, but it doesn’t just come in one configuration; it comes in several. However, one of the Xbox 360’s big selling points is that it’s backward compatible. This means that if you had one of the older Xboxes and decided to upgrade to the Xbox 360, you don’t have to start over with all the new games because all the old ones will still run. This, of course, won’t stop you from going out and buying some of the best new games just to see what your new system will do. On top of that, you don’t even need to leave your house to get some of them. You can also download all your favorite arcade classics. Granted, Frogger, Space Defender, and Mrs Pac-Man are a bit tame compared to Halo 3, but they can still be a fun little tease.

You like the movies? Well, Xbox 360 is also a DVD player. Use it with the universal remote and you’ll have a great space saver for a bedroom or dorm room. What if you don’t have many movies? Just use Netflix and you will never run out of movies. Xbox Live also lets you compete against players across the hall or across the country. There is no reason to play alone anymore. There’s also a long list of accessories, like wireless controllers, and the list is always growing. Some of them can be used with all games, while others are created only for certain games to provide a better gaming experience.

2010 saw the release of the latest configuration, so now is a great time to buy. You won’t have to worry about something new coming out the week after you buy the last one. So get your console and pick up a couple of the newest games and have some awesome fun.
