SEO and you

SEO. What is it and how can it help your website look, feel and rank better than the competition? Well, for starters, search engines love SEO copywriting and if you don’t have it, you’re in big trouble. It stands for search engine optimization and helps your site rank well in search engines, which in turn makes people searching online see it every day. And really, who doesn’t search online? It’s huge and if you want traffic online, you need SEO to work for you.

Keywords are something you need your writing to contain as they link back to the site and are great for making your page stand out. Keywords should be as useful to your guests as their initial search is. For example, if your site is about dogs, a main keyword would be dog, but also things associated with dogs, so you would need to use things like barking, tail, canine, etc. First, you don’t want to confuse your reader, and second, you want the words that can be used in a search to bring the user back to you.

Annoying a search engine with your content is a death kiss for a website. Sites that are cluttered with keywords, those whose pages lack information, or those that are difficult to navigate can be considered untrustworthy and will rank low, if at all.

But what about the ranking? Who cares? Well, if it’s your site and you’re not getting traffic, you will care. Imagine that you are looking for something and the first two or three sites were a total disaster. You didn’t get the answer you were looking for and you are more confused than ever. With SEO, this never happens because the pages are ranked in such a way that the one with the most keywords that match your search appears first. Unless you’re really, really, really looking for something to do, no one will go to page 2 or further on a search. This is because we have learned that the best pages are the ones that are displayed first. If the first does not work, it is certain that the second will. Everyone is happy with your information and the site gets your traffic. Keeping it real, trustworthy, and making SEO work for you are all signs that your site is heading in the right direction.
