How can I gain the trust of my timid and shy cat?

If your cat is very shy and timid, it may take some time for her to trust you. However, if you take your time and don’t rush them, you can form a strong bond with these cats.

For whatever reason, some cats are much more apprehensive around people. If you have this type of cat, it will take more work to gain their trust, but it is possible.

It is always better to keep these types of cats alone in a room so that they have a much smaller area to explore, and this makes them a little less apprehensive.

Then you should only allow one or two people in the room to interact with the cat at any one time. When you enter the room, do not directly approach that cat. Just sit alone in a quiet corner of the room for a while.

Do this several times a day so your new cat realizes you don’t want to hurt him. You can also go there with treats. But again, don’t get close, you can just set up to be treated close to you or in a neutral position.

Let the cat come to you in its own time and then you can brush or pet it. The main thing is never to rush these types of cats because you will simply scare them away. If you take your time, eventually your shy and timid cat will come to trust you.
